Deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina

Deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and nine of her family members have been declared ineligible to vote from overseas in the upcoming 13th parliamentary election.

Election Commission (EC) Secretary Akhtar Ahmed confirmed on Wednesday that individuals with locked National IDs cannot participate in the polls.

In April, the EC’s NID wing ordered NID locks for Hasina and her close relatives, including Rehana Siddiq, Sajeeb Ahmed Wazed, Saima Wazed, Shahin Siddiq, Bushra Siddiq, Tulip Rizwana Siddiq, Azmina Siddiq, Radwan Mujib Siddiq, and Tariq Ahmed Siddiq.

The EC secretary explained that both in-country and out-of-country voting will be allowed, with overseas voters required to register online using their NID numbers. However, those with locked NIDs, including Hasina, remain barred from casting ballots.
