The National Revolution and Solidarity Day is being observed today across the country with various programmes.

The day commemorates 7 November 1975, when members of the armed forces and the general public jointly rose during a period of political turmoil. The event is regarded by its supporters as a turning point that reshaped the nation’s political landscape and paved the way for the leadership of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.

On that day, as he addressed the nation with the words, “I am Zia speaking,” many recalled his voice from the early days of the 1971 Liberation War. The announcement was seen by his supporters as a moment of reassurance and renewed confidence, following weeks of intense uncertainty.

Spontaneous gatherings were held in Dhaka and across the country, where civilians and soldiers joined processions, chanting slogans calling for unity and national solidarity. The day has since been observed by many political and social groups as a symbol of harmony between the people and the armed forces.

Supporters of the observance say that the events of November 7 helped Bangladesh emerge from ideological unrest and foreign interference, setting the stage for the development of a distinct national identity.

To mark the occasion this year, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has taken up a series of programmes. The party flag has been hoisted at its central office in Naya Paltan and at its district offices nationwide.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, along with senior party leaders, placed wreaths at the grave of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the morning. A rally will also be brought out from the BNP Central Office in the afternoon.
