BNP’s acting chairman Tarique Rahman has wished everyone at home and abroad a Happy New Year and said, let our motto in the New Year be - 'Not destruction, not revenge, let's build a society of love, tolerance, peace and harmony.' We must build a democratic Bangladesh of human rights and social justice.
In a message issued through the Facebook Tarique Rahman said, “On the occasion of the English New Year, I wish everyone at home and abroad unwavering joy, peace, well-being and prosperity. Happy New Year.
“The new message in the New Year is derived from the experience of the past year. The arrival of the New Year begins preparations to erase the sorrow of the old year and bring new hope, joy and prosperity.
“On January 1, the New Year has become an international festival. The scope of the festival has expanded through the English New Year, keeping the cultural traditions of different ethnic groups intact. It is celebrated in various ways around the world.
“New Year is not just a festival, it is a reflection of culture, tradition and spirit. In the new year, we dream anew with the promise of building a beautiful, prosperous Bangladesh. We hope to build a nation where every citizen is important and everyone's voice will be free.
“The past year is still vivid in our minds. Along with achievements and successes, several bitter experiences and the pain of losing loved ones will make us happy on one hand, and sad on the other.
“Our pledge today will be to form an accountable government through a free and fair election, ensure the political and economic empowerment of the people, and work together to revive democracy in general.
“The defeated anti-people forces have so far imprisoned all the rights of the people. Now, we must once again start the work of establishing multi-party democracy through the united efforts of all democratic forces.
“The New Year awakens a new pulse of life, new hope, and new possibilities in everyone's life. Let Bangladesh move forward on the path of immense possibilities. Let all injustice, oppression, and torture be gone forever. English New Year is inseparable from daily life in the world. That is why colorful festivals are held worldwide to welcome the New Year.
“On this festive day, I once again appeal to the countrymen - we must make a collective effort to overcome all obstacles in the social and political spheres and move this nation forward along the path of the tradition of a life of struggle.
“Let our motto in the New Year be - 'Not destruction, not revenge, let's build a society of love, tolerance, peace and harmony.' We must build a democratic Bangladesh of human rights and social justice.
“Allah Hafez, Long live Bangladesh.”
