Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on Sunday staged a protest march on Dhaka University campus, condemning  the offensive remarks about women made from the verified X account of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman.

The protest was held in response to a post circulated on social media on Saturday which drew widespread criticism for its language towards women.

During the demonstration, JCD leaders and activists carried banners and festoons and chanted slogans denouncing derogatory comments against women.

According to screenshots of the post shared widely online, the statement reads: “We believe that when women are pushed out of the house in the name of modernity, they face exploitation, moral degradation and insecurity. This is actually another form of prostitution.”

JCD leaders said such comments demean women and undermine their dignity and rights.

The post from Shafiqur Rahman’s verified account continued to attract criticism from different quarters on social media, with many users calling it offensive and discriminatory toward women, reports UNB.
