Dr. Zubaida Rahman, vice-chairperson of Ziaur Rahman Foundation has called for united efforts of all to build a Bangladesh based on equality, dignity of labour and jobs on the basis of merit.
Speaking at an exchange of opinion at the Hatirjheel Amphitheatre on Wednesday, she said this is the time of a new sunrise. We want a country where the people will come before the leader, we will come before I and Bangladesh before everyone.
Amid spontaneous applause from a mixed audience of representatives from Korail, Bhasantek, Sattala slums, transport and garment workers of Dhaka 17 area, doctors, agriculturists, engineers and journalists Dr. Zubaida Rahman pledged to know more of their problems and help resolve those. BNP chairman Tarique Rahman is contesting from the seat.
Nazrul Islam Khan, member of BNP Standing Committee, who was the special guest at the function said that the election manifesto of BNP that will be announced on Friday will show his party would do more than what the people of the Dhaka 17 constituency demanded.
He said, BNP stands for safe housing and safe transport for garment workers and the Wages Commission to update wages every two years in place of present three years.
Urging the people to vote BNP to power based on its track record Khan said Shaheed President had turned Bangladesh from a bottomless basket to a resourceful country. Begum Khaleda Zia had made the country an emerging tiger from one that was made cent percent dependent on foreign aid. Now their competent son Tarique Rahman is ready to rebuild a country devastated by loot, plunder and money laundering in 17 years of AL rule, he said.
Farhad Halim Donar, team leader, professionals' committee for organising election presided over the meeting where valiant freedom fighter Abdus Salam, chief coordinator of the Dhaka 17 election organising committee was present as special guest.
Earlier, Tania Aktar of Bhasantek, Fatima Aktar of Bhasantek, Nargis Aktar, of Sattala area, bus driver Ruhul Amin Babul, bus driver, garment workers Mirza Al-Shamim and Fatima Khatun spoke at the opinion exchange meeting highlighting problems faced by them.
