BNP Standing Committee member and chief coordinator of the party’s Election Management Committee, Nazrul Islam Khan, on Friday described the election as a significant moment in the country’s history.

Speaking to reporters at the Election Commission after reviewing the results, he said the people had once again entrusted the BNP with the responsibility of governing the country. He expressed gratitude to voters and thanked Allah for the outcome.

He also appreciated the role of the media, saying their coverage helped voters understand the party’s plans and make informed decisions.

On the question of forming a national government, Nazrul said no discussion had taken place so far. He clarified that his visit to the commission was not for an official briefing but to review the results, adding that BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman would issue a formal statement on behalf of the party.

Drawing a comparison with previous elections, he noted that earlier polls had seen significant loss of life, whereas this time there were no casualties linked to election-day violence, calling it an important development.

He acknowledged that voter turnout was lower than expected and expressed hope that participation would improve in future elections.

Nazrul added that the BNP had fielded 292 candidates and initially aimed to secure all seats. While the results did not fully match expectations, he said the party remains optimistic about achieving stronger outcomes ahead.
