Shahabuddin Swears In Three Governments in Three Years
In a rare development in Bangladesh’s political history, President Mohammed Shahabuddin has sworn in three different governments within just three years, reflecting a period of rapid political change.
The President administered the oath to BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman as the new Prime Minister at a ceremony held at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Monday. He also swore in ministers and state ministers of the Cabinet formed under Rahman’s leadership.
Earlier, on 11 January 2024, the President administered the oath to the Awami League government led by Sheikh Hasina following that year’s national election. The government later fell on 5 August 2024 amid the July Uprising.
Subsequently, on 8 August 2024, an interim government headed by Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus was formed, and its members were also sworn in by the President.
Mohammed Shahabuddin himself took office as the country’s 22nd President on 24 April 2023.
