State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yasser Khan Choudhury today said the government believes in freedom of press and free flow of information.

“IPTV platforms can be an excellent medium to raise the voices of marginal people. However, they must refrain from spreading misinformation or confusion and should be operated with due compliance to state policies,” he said.

He made the remark at a discussion meeting with members of the Association of IPTV Owners Bangladesh at the conference room of the Press Information Department (PID) today, said a press release.

Prime Minister’s Adviser Dr Zahed Ur Rahman said in this period of building a digital Bangladesh, it is important to ensure that IPTVs maintain professionalism and provide objective news.

He called on the association members to work in coordination with the government for the orderly development of the IPTV industry.

At the meeting, leaders of the Association of IPTV Bangladesh raised the problems, prospects and various aspects of registration and operation of IPTV platforms in light of the existing government policies.

They emphasized the need for government support and formulation of specific policies for the development of the sector, reports BSS.

Senior officials of the PID attended the meeting.
