The government has appointed senior journalist Muhammad Kader Gani Chowdhury as Managing Director and Chief Editor of state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a gazette notification on Thursday in this regard.

According to the notification, Kader Gani Chowdhury has been appointed under the Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha Act, 2018 on a contractual basis for one year.

His appointment will take effect from the date of his joining and is subject to his relinquishing any employment or professional engagement with any other profession, business, or government, semi-government or private institution or organisation.

Kader Gani Chowdhury replaces Md Kamal Uddin Mozumder, better known as Kamal Uddin Shabuj, who was appointed BSS Managing Director and Chief Editor on April 7 last.

Kader Gani Chowdhury has long been involved in journalism. He is currently serving as secretary general of the Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ), the apex platform of journalists in Bangladesh, reports UNB.
