A journalist of Channel S died while covering the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) election at Dhaka University's Curzon Hall on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Tariqul Shibli, 40, a city reporter at Channel S Television and son of AKM Shahidullah of Cumilla district.

Tariqul, father of two children, used to reside in Uttara Diabari area of the capital.

Tariqul fell unconscious around 1:30 pm and then he was taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the on-duty doctor declared him dead, said Inspector Faruk, in-charge of (DMCH) police camp.

According to his colleague Sohel Rana, Tariqul had been reporting live from inside Curzon Hall during the election when he suddenly collapsed and lost consciousness, reports UNB.

The body was kept at the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The doctors suspected that Tariqul might have died of cardiac arrest, said Inspector Faruk.
