Accountability Key to Resolving Rohingya Crisis: Dhaka

Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain has stressed that accountability for crimes against humanity committed against the Rohingya is essential to ensuring justice and a lasting resolution to the crisis.


Speaking at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum 2025 in Turkey, Hossain met with International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim A.A. Khan KC to discuss the Rohingya issue and broader collaboration between Bangladesh and the ICC.

Hossain reiterated Bangladesh’s firm support for the ICC and the Rome Statute, and expressed interest in expanding cooperation with the court in areas such as training for legal experts, academics, and jurists. He welcomed the ICC’s commitment to justice in the context of both the Rohingya crisis and the ongoing situation in Gaza.

During the meeting, the ICC prosecutor praised Bangladesh’s steadfast support for the international justice system.

The Foreign Affairs Adviser also conveyed Bangladesh’s deep sympathy for the Palestinian people amid recent violence and reaffirmed Dhaka’s unwavering backing for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, in line with relevant UN resolutions.

Information and Broadcasting Adviser Md Mahfuz Alam, Bangladesh’s Ambassador to Türkiye, and senior officials from both sides were also present.

Both parties agreed to strengthen cooperation and deepen engagement between Bangladesh and the ICC in the future.

Separately, a senior official from the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) commended Bangladesh’s active role in fostering regional stability and confidence-building in Asia.
