Remittance inflows to Bangladesh from Saudi Arabia rose sharply in July, while receipts from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Malaysia declined, according to Bangladesh Bank data.

Bangladesh received $587.3 million in remittances from Saudi Arabia in July, the first month of fiscal year 2026-27, up 37.8% from $426.4 million in the same month a year earlier. Saudi Arabia remained the country’s largest source of remittances.

Remittances from the UAE fell 10% year on year to $255.6 million, while inflows from Malaysia declined 24.6% to $201.3 million.

Overall, Bangladesh received $2.86 billion in workers’ remittances in July, marking a 15.4% increase from $2.48 billion in the same month of the previous fiscal year.

Saudi Arabia has consistently remained one of Bangladesh’s largest remittance sources. In fiscal year 2025-26, Bangladeshi expatriates in Saudi Arabia sent home about $5.85 billion, according to Bangladesh Bank data.

The latest figures underscore Saudi Arabia’s growing contribution to Bangladesh’s remittance inflows, even as receipts from some other major labour markets declined in July.
