The United Kingdom issued a travel alert on Tuesday, urging foreign nationals to reconsider travel to Bangladesh due to a heightened risk of terrorist attacks.

In its updated advisory, the UK stated that terrorists are likely to attempt attacks in Bangladesh, targeting crowded areas, religious sites, political rallies, and other locations frequented by foreigners.

The advisory highlighted that certain groups have targeted individuals based on perceived views or lifestyles contrary to Islam. Minority religious communities, as well as police and security forces, have also been occasional targets, with incidents including improvised explosive device (IED) attacks in major cities.

Bangladeshi authorities are actively working to prevent attacks, which may lead to increased security measures and movement restrictions at short notice.

The UK advised travelers to remain vigilant, particularly near police buildings or security installations, and to avoid large gatherings. “Follow the advice of local authorities and stay aware of your surroundings,” the advisory urged.
