The US Embassy in Dhaka issued a security advisory on Monday, urging American citizens in Bangladesh to remain vigilant due to ongoing protests in solidarity with Gaza.
The advisory, posted on the embassy's website, specifically highlighted potential disruptions in Dhaka and other cities across the country.
Titled "Demonstration Alert," the post stated that protests were expected to occur throughout the day on April 7, 2025. University students are planning to participate in mass demonstrations in Dhaka and other cities, protesting the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The advisory noted that protests could also lead to increased traffic and potential disruptions near the embassy, prompting the embassy to limit afternoon public services on that day.
The embassy emphasized the need for caution, stating, "US citizens should remain vigilant, as demonstrations intended to be peaceful can sometimes escalate into confrontational or violent situations. We advise you to avoid areas of protest and to exercise heightened awareness in the vicinity of large gatherings. It is important to review personal security plans, stay informed about local events, and monitor local news stations for updates."
Additionally, the embassy provided specific recommendations for American citizens, including:
Avoiding protest areas
Keeping updated with local media for any developments
Steering clear of crowds and demonstrations
Carrying a fully charged mobile phone for emergency contact purposes
The US Embassy continues to encourage all citizens to prioritize their safety and stay informed throughout the duration of the protests.
