Youth Reboot Bangladesh
Bangladesh stands at a pivotal moment in its history, marked by profound social transformation and youth activism. Over the last decade, movements like the Quota Reform Movement, initiated by students and young professionals, have played a crucial role in advocating for a more equitable society. The protest started by youth in July- August 2024, against the disproportionate allocation of government jobs through quotas, evolved into a broader Anti-Discrimination Movement. This movement, fueled by the energy and resilience of Bangladesh's youth, exposed systemic inequalities, including those in education, employment, and representation. This growing pressure for reform eventually led to a shift in public sentiment. Protests, advocacy, and civil unrest culminated in a change of government and the establishment of an interim administration, tasked with steering the country toward inclusivity and fairness.
In response to this historic moment, BRAC has intensified its efforts to support the nation. Known for its solution-driven approach, BRAC has identified five priority measures to address the current needs of the youth, marginalised and vulnerable groups:
• Expand and strengthen education, skills development, and employment initiatives for young people to ensure they have access to opportunities for growth and leadership.
• Facilitate the rehabilitation of injured individuals by providing prosthetic limbs through the BRAC Limb and Brace Centre.
• Provide mental health support and psychosocial counselling to university students to help them cope with the trauma and emotional impact of recent events.
• Conduct an assessment of the most vulnerable people affected by the violence and offer primary rehabilitation assistance to help them recover.
• Support small and medium entrepreneurs, especially women, to revitalise the rural economy and aid recovery from economic losses.
Let's join hands to turn this vision into action and build an equitable Bangladesh together. Engage – BRAC Newsletter
