The service areas of Padma Bridge are set to generate a total of 6,033 kilowatt-peak (kWp) of electricity through solar power.
This week, the Bangladesh Bridge Authority (BBA) signed an agreement with Omera Renewable Energy Limited to implement the project within six months. The deal, valued at Tk 23.58 crore, was signed by BBA Chief Engineer Kazi Md Ferdous and Omera CEO Masudur Rahman.
A recent feasibility study by the Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL) found that Service Area-1 can produce 1,966 kWp, Service Area-2 about 2,948 kWp, and Service Area-3 around 1,119 kWp, totaling 6,033 kWp.
The installation is scheduled to be completed by March 14, 2026. Electricity generated will be managed through a net metering system, helping reduce overall costs.
The project aligns with the government’s Renewable Energy Policy 2025, which aims to meet 20% of total power demand from renewable sources by 2030 and 30% by 2040. The Power Division has also launched the National Rooftop Solar Programme to prioritise renewable energy and strengthen energy security.
