Senior journalist and international affairs analyst Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury was killed in a road accident in the city’s Karwan Bazar area on Saturday night. He was 69.
Chowdhury, also former managing director and chief editor of Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), slipped onto the ground at Sonargaon crossing while disembarking from a bus around 8:30pm and received injuries in the head, said Syed Abdal Ahmad, general secretary of the Jatiya Press Club.The accident happened as the bus suddenly started moving while the senior journalist was getting down from it, he said.
A pedestrian took him to nearby Mohona Clinic where he was denied treatment. Later, he was whisked off to Comfort Hospital at Green Road where doctors declared him dead.
Zaglul Ahmed Chowdhury was going to private television channel ‘ntv’ at Karwan Bazar to take part in a talk-show when he met with the accident.
His body has been kept at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) mortuary.
He left behind his wife, one son and one daughter to mourn his death.
President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock at the sad demise of the noted journalist.
In separate messages, they prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family. – UNB
