The stock markets in Dhaka and Chattogram have been on a steady decline since the start of this trading week, with the trend continuing on the third consecutive day (Tuesday).

The key index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), the DSEX, dropped by 26 points, bringing its total loss over three days to 53 points. The DSEX, which stood at 5,247 points on February 27, ended the day at 5,194 points.

Other DSE indices also experienced losses. The Shariah-based DSES fell by 4 points, while the DS30, which tracks blue-chip stocks, declined by 8 points.

Alongside the declining indices, overall trading volume has also decreased. The total turnover for the day was Tk 338 crore, down from Tk 381 crore the previous day. Of the 396 companies traded, only 65 saw an increase in share prices, while 267 recorded declines, and 64 remained unchanged.

Stock prices across all categories—A, B, and Z—mostly trended downward. Among the 37 mutual funds traded, only 2 gained, 15 declined, and 20 remained unchanged.

The SME index of the DSE, the DSMEX, also saw a significant drop of 23 points, marking a 2.33% decline from the previous day. Trading volume in small and medium-sized companies plunged, with shares worth only Tk 1.81 crore changing hands, down from Tk 5.46 crore the day before.

Among DSE-listed companies, Indo-Bangla Pharmaceuticals Limited saw the highest price gain of 9.52%, while Sonargaon Textile Limited experienced the largest loss, with a 7.96% drop.

In the block market, 20 companies traded 1.7 million shares worth Tk 8 crore, with ACI Limited leading this segment by selling 1.5 lakh shares for Tk 2.47 crore.

Chattogram Market Decline

The Chattogram Stock Exchange (CSE) mirrored Dhaka's decline, with the overall index falling by 82 points. Among the 227 companies traded, 51 saw price increases, 149 recorded declines, and 27 remained unchanged.

Unlike the DSE, the CSE saw a slight increase in turnover, with total trading value reaching Tk 4.37 crore, up from Tk 3.31 crore the previous day.

Bangladesh Lamps PLC led the CSE with a 9.97% price gain, while Paramount Insurance PLC recorded the largest loss, dropping by 9.98%.
