Rajshahi - Rajshahi University Mass Communication and Journalism department’s associate professor Abdullah Al Mamun took a symbolic class under tree protesting the closure of educational institutions since March 18, 2020, due to the COVID-19 situation.
He took the class at around 11 am on Monday in front of the Rabindranath Tagore academic building of the university.
Abdullah Al Mamun last Friday declared in a Facebook post to meet the students under a tree from the following week if classes do not reopen immediately.
He discussed the relationship between the media and power that be in the class.
A total of 15 students from different departments were present in the class maintaining health rules.
RU Anthropology department’s associate professor Bokhtiar Ahmed and Folklore department’s associate professor Amirul Islam joined the class and delivered speeches.
Amirul Islam said he would take classes from next Tuesday. Our classes are symbolic. Thus we are giving a message to the government to open the educational institutions maintaining health rules immediately.
Abdullah Al Mamun said, the decisions coming from the government about reopening the educational institutions are illogical. So, we are taking symbolic classes protesting the government decisions and it will be continued. – RU Correspondent
