The University Grants Commission (UGC) has ordered four private universities to stop enrolment of new students.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has ordered four private universities to stop enrolment of new students as they failed to shift to permanent campuses within the stipulated time.
The university apex body sent letters to the concerned universities on Monday (January 2).
The universities are Stamford University Bangladesh, Prime Asia University, Asa University and Victoria University.
UGC ordered six universities to shift to permanent campuses within the stipulated time.  Of these universities, Manarat International University and Victoria University have been able to do this.
UGC member Professor Dr Biswajit Chanda said that according to the Private University Act, a university must be transferred to a permanent campus within 12 years of approval.
The UGC in April last year declared the temporary campuses of 22 private universities illegal and said they would not be allowed to admit new students unless they shifted to permanent campuses by December 31.
Some private universities were not able to show progress in setting up permanent campuses within the deadline set by the UGC.
