Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim Saturday underscored the need for teaching children about the history of country's birth.

Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim  Saturday underscored the need for teaching children about the history of country's birth and the lessons of the freedom struggles, the Liberation War and the sacrifices.

"We are incomplete without knowing the history of the birth of Bangladesh. Apart from teaching the children about ideology, they should be taught about the pre-liberation education system and the lessons of liberation struggles, Liberation War and sacrifices," he said.

The minister made the remarks while addressing a function on Malikhali High School premises at Nazirpur here, marking the birth centenary of Bangabandhu, the golden jubilee of the country's independence and the farewell reception to the retired teachers of the school, said a press release.

Noting that Bangladesh was not ready all of a sudden for the War of Liberation, Rezaul said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had liberated the country by preparing the whole nation through a continuous movement and struggle for a long time.

If the students are not taught this history, he said, they would not know how much sacrifice has been made for an independent and sovereign Bangladesh.

Presided over by Malikhali Union Parishad Chairman Md Ruhul Amin Bablu, Nazirpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sheikh Abdullah Sadeed addressed the function as the special gust.

Nazirpur Upazila Muktijoddha Sangsad Commander Sheikh Abdul Latif, Pirojour district Jubo League President Akhtaruzzaman Fulu and former Pirojpur Muktijoddha Sangsad Commander Goutam Narayan Ray Chowdhury were present at the function, among others.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated the mass Covid-19 vaccination programme at the Malikhali Union Parishad.
