A team of young robotics enthusiasts from Bangladesh has earned international recognition by securing 3rd place in the Senior BottleSumo World Championship category at Robofest 2026, held at Lawrence Technological University in Michigan, United States.

Robofest is a global robotics competition where students design, build and program autonomous robots to compete in challenge-based events. The 27th edition of the championship took place from 14 to 16 May, bringing together teams from different countries.

In the BottleSumo category, robots compete autonomously by pushing an object or opponent out of a designated platform. The Bangladesh team delivered a strong performance to claim the 3rd Place Trophy in the senior division.

The seven-member team included six students from International Hope School Bangladesh (IHSB) and one student from a national curriculum college in Sylhet. They were trained and mentored by the Robonauts Club, a Bangladesh-based STEM education platform.

Team members included Md Mansib Ahsan, Shayaan Sadid Zaman, Tang Tianxing, Nasif Ashab Khan Jami, Abdur Rahman Lahi, Farhan Mustafa and Abrar Hasan, with Md Moonzoor Morshed serving as coach.

Beyond the competition results, participants gained hands-on experience in international robotics standards, teamwork under pressure, problem-solving and real-time technical decision-making. They also interacted with global teams and explored advanced STEM learning practices at a US university environment.

Coach Md Moonzoor Morshed said the achievement reflects not only technical success but also the development of confidence, discipline and leadership among students.

Participant Abdur Rahman Lahi said the experience showed that robotics is not only about machines but also strategy, teamwork and quick thinking under pressure.

Robonauts Club, which trained the team, continues to promote robotics and STEM education in Bangladesh, preparing students for international competitions and hands-on engineering challenges.
