Starlink, the satellite internet service operated by US-based SpaceX, has officially launched its operations in Bangladesh.
The announcement was made at a press conference held on Friday (18 July) in Dhaka, where a high-level Starlink delegation was present, led by Lauren Dreyer, Vice President of Business Operations, and Richard Griffiths, Director of International Strategy and Government Relations.
Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications, stated that Starlink’s service launch marks a significant step towards strengthening Bangladesh’s digital infrastructure. He noted that the launch was made possible under the direct guidance of Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus.
“This is not only a technological advancement but also a move towards greater digital inclusion,” Taiyeb said.
Speaking at the event, Lauren Dreyer praised Bangladesh’s government for its swift and visionary leadership in adopting next-generation connectivity.
“While many nations deliberate, Bangladesh acted,” Dreyer said. “By treating connectivity as a fundamental right, you’ve positioned your nation as a model for others.”
She highlighted that the process from initial dialogue to deployment took just a few months, with regulatory approvals finalised in May 2025 and customers going online shortly after.
“This is not just about satellites,” Dreyer added. “We’re enabling opportunities in remote learning, telemedicine, digital entrepreneurship, and inclusive growth.”
She acknowledged the contributions of local partners, including Felicity IDC and Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited, and stressed the importance of collaboration between global innovators and national stakeholders.
Starlink formally commenced services on Friday after three months of trial operations. The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has issued Starlink a 10-year Satellite Operator Licence and Radio Communication Operator Licence.
To access Starlink services, customers must purchase a setup kit priced at Tk 42,000, which includes a satellite receiver dish, router, and essential components.
Two subscription packages are available:
Starlink Residential: Tk 6,000 per month for unlimited internet with speeds up to 300 Mbps.
Starlink Lite: Tk 4,200 per month, offering uninterrupted access at comparatively lower speeds.
The service aims to provide reliable, high-speed internet even in Bangladesh’s most remote regions, supporting the nation’s digital growth and connectivity goals.
