Sources said after a long survey in 2014, a masterplan was taken to develop Kuakata as a tourist-friendly town.

All kinds of investments in the tourist town of Kuakata are stuck due to masterplan complications. Kuakata is losing its beauty due to mismanagement, unplanned urbanization and continuous erosion.

Sources said after a long survey in 2014, a masterplan was taken to develop Kuakata as a tourist-friendly town. But the project didn’t come to light due to may complexity.

Again, the government took a new plan to make a well-planned tourist town in the area. However, before the implementation of the slow-moving master plan, various infrastructures are being built there without any plan. That is hampering new investment like land buying and selling.

Besides, there is still no quality road connectivity at tourist attractive spots. Even, no five-star level hotels have been built there.

Yeasmin Sumi, a tourist from Dhaka’s Matuail said “I have come here along my family members. The sea beach amazed us. But the road communication is not satisfactory.

Shah-Alam Hawladar, president of Kuakata Hotel-Motel owners association said a permanent master plan is needed. Many investors want to build hotels, motels and other infrastructures here but everything is stuck in the masterplan complexity.

Ruman Imtiaz, president of Tour Operator Association of Kuakata said all the hotels and motels are now being constructed in Kuakata without the permission of the Divisional Commissioner. Many investors (who have bought land earlier) are not getting the permission to build structures. So, they are building hotels and motels without any permission. Complexity would be raised in future when the authority will publish permanent masterplan.

Kalapara upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Jahangir Hossain said the government is working sincerely on the master plan. Hopefully the new master plan will be announced soon to develop Kuakata as a modern and planned tourist town.
