Following the signing of an MoU with Bangladesh Tourism Board (BTB), BRAC launched ‘Otithi’ on 3 November 2024 in Rajshahi. Otithi is a community-based tourism promoting sustainable travel by showcasing Bangladesh’s culture, history, and cuisine while empowering local communities. Abu Tahir Muhammad Jaber, CEO of BTB, and Asif Saleh, Executive Director of BRAC attended the launching event.

‘Otithi’ integrates local communities into the tourism sector, driving economic growth and cultural preservation. It reconnects urban youth with heritage and highlights Bangladesh’s diversity to global audiences.

The performances showcased traditional Bangladeshi heritage, with Karsa presenting folk music and Gombhira delivering satirical musical theater highlighting social themes. Visitors to Rajshahi can explore the Barendra Museum, Santal villages, pottery communities, and silk factories while enjoying local delicacies and Padma River cruises.

Through ‘Otithi,’ BRAC aims to blend tourism with community empowerment and cultural preservation to create lasting impact. – BRAC Newsletter, December 2024.
