
Beach cleaning programme orghanised in Kuakata on Wednesday 21 January 2026.
Patuakhali: To combat the adverse effects of climate change and protect the coastal environment, the non-governmental voluntary organization NSS has conducted a human chain and beach cleaning campaign in Kuakata, Patuakhali. Various development organizations, social organizations and local people participated in the program.
On Wednesday morning, the NSS formed a human chain program on the east side of the zero point of Kuakata sea beach with the slogan “Annual Gathering for Climate Action”.
The speakers at the human chain said that due to climate change, the risk of cyclones, tidal waves, increased salinity and river erosion in the coastal areas is increasing day by day. The coastal poor and marginalized communities are being affected the most.
The speakers emphasized the joint participation of private organizations and the general public in addition to government initiatives in environmental conservation. At the same time, they called for environmentally friendly behavior, reducing plastic waste and raising awareness.
After the human chain, a cleanliness drive was conducted at Kuakata beach on the initiative of NSS. More than two hundred volunteers, tourists and local people participated in this drive covering an area of about one kilometer.
The organizers said that through such a program, people's participation in protecting the environment will increase and the collective efforts to combat climate change will be stronger.
NSS Executive Committee Treasurer and Journalist Khairul Bashar Bulbul, CARE Bangladesh Representative Bayezid Bostami and World Vision Amtali AP Manager Bidhan Biswas spoke at the program.
Also present were Abul Hossain Raju, Joint Convener of Coastal Environment Protection Movement 'Upara', Member Secretary Asaduzzaman Miraj, General Secretary of Kuakata Tour Guide Association Shamim Hossain Raju, Journalist Zakir Hossain and representatives of various social and voluntary organizations. - Gofran Palash
