Newly appointed Chargé d'Affaires of Singapore High Commission to Bangladesh Philip Ong paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostaqur Rahman at his office on Wednesday and discussed strengthening bilateral economic and commercial ties.

During the meeting, they exchanged views on expanding trade, enhancing economic cooperation and issues related to a potential Free Trade Agreement (FTA), according to a Bangladesh Bank press release.

Both sides also discussed the digital transformation of Bangladesh's foreign trade using Singapore's TradeTrust platform.

The Singaporean delegation appreciated the participation of Bangladeshi banks in the initiative following a circular issued by the central bank.

To accelerate the digitisation of foreign trade, the two sides decided to form a joint Working Committee comprising representatives from Bangladesh Bank and relevant Singaporean authorities.

The BB governor emphasised exploring new avenues for trade and economic cooperation and called for steps to make bilateral trade between the two countries more balanced and diversified.

The Singaporean delegation included Wong Choo Sin from the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Benjamin Chue from Enterprise Singapore, among others.

BB Deputy Governors Dr Md Habibur Rahman and Md Sarwar Hossain, Executive Director Md Harun-or-Rashid, and Director Abu Saleh Muhammad Sahab Uddin were also present, reports UNB.
