Sri Lankan Envoy Explores Trade Ties with BGMEA

Dharmapala Weerakkody, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka to Bangladesh, paid a courtesy visit to Anwar Hossain, Administrator of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Vice-Chairman of the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB), at the EPB office in Dhaka on December 9.


During the meeting, both parties engaged in discussions on enhancing bilateral trade and investment relations between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. The focus was on exploring new areas of cooperation, particularly in sectors such as textile and apparel manufacturing, where both countries have shared interests.

BGMEA Administrator Anwar Hossain highlighted the significant potential for collaboration through joint ventures, technology transfer, and skill development. He expressed a strong desire to deepen ties with Sri Lanka, particularly in the textile and apparel industry, emphasizing the complementary strengths of both nations in this sector.

The High Commissioner echoed these sentiments, underscoring the importance of strengthening economic relations and exploring new avenues for mutual benefit. Both sides agreed to work collaboratively to implement concrete initiatives aimed at realizing the full potential of their bilateral economic partnership.

This visit marks a significant step in enhancing trade ties and opening doors for increased cooperation in the textile and apparel sectors between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
