Trump Pauses Tariffs on Mexico and Canada After Agreements

President Donald Trump has agreed to a 30-day suspension of the planned 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada. This decision follows commitments from both countries to enhance border security and combat drug trafficking. 

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the appointment of a "fentanyl czar" and the formation of a joint task force with the U.S. to tackle organized crime. Similarly, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum pledged to deploy 10,000 National Guard members to strengthen border enforcement. 

Despite this temporary reprieve, the situation remains fluid. The tariffs are set to take effect on March 4, 2025, if the agreed-upon measures are not satisfactorily implemented. Additionally, the U.S. has proceeded with a 10% tariff on imports from China, which took effect today.
