Bangladesh Seeks OIC Backing for Halal Certification
Religious Affairs Adviser Dr AFM Khalid Hossain has called on the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to support Bangladesh in strengthening its halal certification system.
He made the appeal on Thursday during a meeting at the Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) Centre in Islamabad, following a visit to the facility.
Dr Hossain said the Islamic Foundation Bangladesh has been working on halal certification and has sought technical assistance from relevant authorities in Turkey and Saudi Arabia. He proposed enhancing the skills of Bangladeshi certification personnel under COMSTECH’s supervision.
The adviser welcomed COMSTECH’s plan to establish a halal institute in Uganda and praised its broader contributions to science, technology, artificial intelligence, environment, climate change, and poverty reduction across the Muslim world.
He also expressed gratitude for 100 scholarships granted by COMSTECH at the University of Lahore for Bangladeshi students, noting that such opportunities are vital for madrasa students to advance in medicine, engineering, and technology.
Stressing unity within the Muslim Ummah, Dr Hossain said progress depends on solidarity under the guidance of the Quran and Hadith.
Bangladesh’s High Commissioner to Pakistan Md Iqbal Hossain Khan, Dr Hossain’s Private Secretary Sadeq Ahmed, Press Counsellor Mohammad Tayyeb Ali, and COMSTECH’s Coordinator General, among others, were present at the meeting.
