An 8km stretch tailback on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge Highway has been created due to slow-moving traffic and cautious driving in dense fog.

Since Friday morning, a traffic jam has persisted on the stretch from Elenga in Tangail to Bangabandhu Bridge East on the Bangabandhu Bridge Highway.

Authorities from the highway and Bangabandhu Bridge East police station are actively working to alleviate the traffic congestion, while passengers and drivers endure the challenges posed by the jam and the severe winter conditions.

Truck driver Sona Mia commented: "I reached Elenga from Dhaka at 8am. I found the traffic moving slowly. The fog is thick, and it's very cold. Some irresponsible drivers contribute to more traffic jams."

A police officer on duty, requesting anonymity, mentioned that traffic is moving slowly as fog has increased in the morning. Some reckless drivers are randomly occupying three lanes, leading to jams.

Police efforts are underway to clear the congestion, and normal traffic conditions are expected to resume shortly, he added.

Bangabandhu Bridge East police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir explained: "A traffic jam occurred due to a breakdown of a vehicle in the Hatila area because of thick fog and the night-time. As the day progressed, the traffic returned to normal."
