A Biman Bangladesh Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner today became the first aircraft to use the Passenger Boarding Bridge and Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS) at HSIA's new Terminal 3, marking a key operational milestone.

The aircraft, operating as Flight BG-356 from Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport (FCO) in Rome, was commanded by Captain Ishtiaque Hossain, with First Officer Tahsin as co-pilot, according to a message shared by Biman here.

The trial operation, which took place between 10:30am and 1:00pm following the disembarkation of passengers, included comprehensive testing of multiple systems at Terminal 3.

These included the VDGS, boarding bridge-mounted external power and air-conditioning systems, and water supply connectivity to the aircraft, Biman said.

Air Commodore Abu Sayeed Mehboob Member (Operations & Planning) of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB), was present on the occasion.

"This marks a critical step forward in enhancing the operational readiness and service capabilities of Terminal 3," CAAB officials said.

The Visual Docking Guidance System (VDGS) is a modern technology that assists pilots in precisely parking aircraft at the designated gates.

It provides real-time visual cues, thereby reducing dependency on ground staff and minimizing the risk of misalignment or accidental collisions with ground equipment, reports BSS.
