Ferry movement on the Paturia-Daulatdia river route was suspended early this morning due to dense fog, disrupting communication with the southern districts of the country.

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) Paturia Ghat Assistant General Manager (AGM) Abdus Salam said ferry operations on the route were suspended from 6:15am as dense fog covered the Padma river, severely reducing visibility.

He said the decision was taken to avoid any untoward incidents.
AGM Abdus Salam said four ferries-Shah Paran, Shah Keramat Ali, Khan Jahan Ali and Bir Sreshtha Ruhul Amin-remained stranded at the Paturia ghat with vehicles and passengers on board.

Meanwhile, six ferries-Golam Maula, Vigar, Dhaka, Language Martyred Shaheed Barkat, Shah Mokdum and Hasna Hena-were stationed at the Daulatdia ghat, reports BSS.

The BIWTC official said ferry movement would resume once the fog dissipates and visibility improves.

Sources at the Paturia ghat said all engine-driven boats and launches on the route have also remained suspended due to dense fog.
