Dhaka University, Aug 19 (UNB): The deadline for collecting and submitting nomination papers for the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) and hall union elections has been extended by one day.
A notification signed by the Chief Returning Officer on Monday (18 August) said the decision was made in response to the overwhelming enthusiasm among students.
The notice mentioned that many students were unable to collect their nomination papers within the scheduled time due to heavy rush at the halls and central offices.
According to the revised schedule, nomination papers can now be collected until 5pm on Tuesday (19 August), while the submission deadline has been extended to 5 pm on Wednesday (20 August).
Meanwhile, allegations have surfaced that several candidates were obstructed while trying to collect nomination papers at Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall.
Witnesses said that some leaders of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) attempted to collect forms from the hall, but as the deadline had already passed, a group of resident students created chaos and prevented them from collecting the papers.
The JCD activists later left without submitting nominations.
Later in the evening, the Dhaka University unit of JCD held a press briefing at Madhur Canteen, demanding investigation and punitive action against those responsible for the incident.
In response, the university authorities have formed a probe committee headed by Assistant Proctor Professor Dr. Md. Robiul Islam.
Other members include Professor Dr. S. M. Arif Mahmud of the Anthropology Department, Assistant Proctor Dr. A. K. M. Nur Alam Siddiqui, and Assistant Proctor Atia Sanjida Shormi.
The committee has been asked to verify facts, assess the situation, and make recommendations regarding the incident.
It has been directed to submit its report by 12 pm on Tuesday (19 August). - UNB
