Three children, including a brother and sister, drowned in a pond in Bogura's Kahalu upazila this afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Fahim, 8, and his sister Suraiya Khatun, 6, children of Md. Faruk, and Zakirul Islam, 6, son of Rashedul Islam. All were residents of Bhalta Adarsha Guchchhagram in Kahalu upazila.

Sub-Inspector Brajen Chandra Mahato of Kahalu Police Station confirmed the matter.

According to locals, the three children went to the pond for taking bath around 12.30 pm while playing nearby. As none of them knew how to swim, they drowned in the water.

About an hour later, locals noticed Zakirul's hair floating on the surface of the pond. Residents subsequently recovered the bodies of Zakirul and Suraiya, while members of the Fire Service later retrieved Fahim's body, reports BSS.

SI Brajen Chandra Mahato said the bodies had been recovered and would be handed over to their families after completion of the necessary legal formalities.
