A college student committed suicide by hanging herself at her home in the Kala Math area of Kamrangirchar in the capital amid a family dispute on early Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Rishat Jahan Omi,16, daughter of Md Osman Gani, an HSC first year student at Dhaka City College.

Her uncle Zakir Hossain said the family members were asleep when Omi allegedly took the step, hanging herself from a ceiling fan with an orna following a family dispute.

She was found unconscious early in the morning and rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead after examination.

Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police outpost, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue and the matter has been reported to the concerned police station, reports UNB.
