A former official of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has died in police custody in Chandgaon thana of Chattogram.
The incident took place early Wednesday.
The deceased was Sayed Mohammad Shahidullah, 67, a former deputy director of the ACC.
Pankaj Dutta, additional deputy commissioner (ADC-North) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), confirmed the death of the former ACC official, saying that he was arrested in a case last night from his residence.
The victim’s son Captain Nafis Shahid said, ‘At 11pm on Tuesday, two assistant sub-inspectors of Chandgaon Police Station took my father to police custody. My uncle also went to the police station as my father had heart problem and he always needed an inhaler and medicine. But police members locked the main gate of the police station. Later, around 12 midnight, they took my father to the hospital. Doctors at the hospital declared his father dead later.’
Nafis said that though they have a dispute with some neighbours over land, they are not aware of any case filed recently and that his father received no notice from the court.
Chandgaon Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Khairul Islam claimed that deceased Shahidullah was arrested following an arrest warrant issued by a court. He was taken to a hospital just after his arrest when he felt sick.
