Narsingdi, Apr 15 – A local Union Parishad member was shot to death allegedly by miscreants at Pakuria Bazar in Madhabdi upazila of Narsingdi district on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Rubel Ahmed alias Rubel, member of No 8 ward of Amdia Union Parishad and son of Shahjahan Mia of Bhuiyam village.

Quoting local people, Fazle Rabbi, sub-inspector of Madhabdi Police Station, said a group of assailants, riding in a private car, intercepted Rubel when he was heading towards his house around 1:45 pm by a motorbike and opened fire on him.

When Rubel fell from the motorbike, the miscreants slit the throat of Rubel and left the place after confirming his death.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Sadar Hospital morgue.

Rubel had been at loggerheads with his rival Emrul in the Union Parishad election and police suspect some connection to that political rivalry behind the brazen murder in broad daylight. - UNB
