Two individuals were killed in a reported shootout with joint police and army forces in Mohammadpur early Thursday morning (20 February).

Sub-Inspector Abdul Momin, duty officer at Mohammadpur Police Station, confirmed the incident at approximately 3:00 AM. According to Momin, the shooting occurred around 1:00 AM in the 40-feet area of Basila during an operation conducted by the joint forces.
The identities of the deceased remain unconfirmed at this time, Momin said.
No members of the joint forces were injured in the encounter, he added.
During the operation, the joint forces detained five individuals, all of whom were brought to the police station for further questioning.
"The five detainees are currently in our custody, and the inquest process for the two bodies is underway," Momin noted.
The shootout took place after the joint forces received a tip-off about a meeting of suspected militants at Chand Udyan. "When the joint forces arrived in the Lautala area near Chand Udyan, the suspects opened fire indiscriminately," Momin explained.
In response, the joint forces returned fire, leading to a two to three-minute exchange. At the end of the encounter, five individuals surrendered, and two others were found dead, reportedly from gunshot wounds.
The authorities seized a revolver and several rounds of ammunition from the detainees.
Further details of the incident are expected to be released in a press briefing scheduled for Thursday.
