Uncle, nephew drown in Patiya

A person and his nephew died while swimming in a pond in the Bathua area under Patiya upazila of the district this afternoon.


The deceased were identified as Mohammad Nasir Uddin, 55, son of Bazal Ahmed, and his nephew Mohammad Airian, 15, son of Bahar Uddin.

Locals said that Airian's family had gone to their village home on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha. 

When the uncle and nephew went to bathe in a pond around 12:30pm, Nasir tried to teach his nephew how to swim. When Airian began drowning, Nasir attempted to rescue him. However, both of them drowned.

Locals and family members rescued the victims in an unconscious state and took them to the upazila health complex, where the attending physician declared them dead around 2pm, reports BSS.
