Two minor cousins drowned in a pond in Kalia upazila of Narail district on Saturday evening.

The deceased were identified as five-year-old Sakib Sheikh and four-year-old Manik Islam. Sakib was the son of Jakat Sheikh, a resident of Uttar Khashial village, while Manik was his nephew.

Although Manik’s family hails from Barishal, he lived with his mother at his maternal uncle’s house in the same village.

Family members and locals said the duo was playing together in the courtyard as they often did in Uttar Khashial village under Khashial Union.

As the boys did not return home by evening, their families began searching for them. One after another the bodies were found floating in the pond, said local UP Chairman BM Barkat Ullah.

Officer-in-charge of Naragati Police Station Md Ashiqur Rahman said the bodies were handed over to their families followed by preliminary investigations, reports UNB.

An unnatural death case was filed in this regard, he said.
