Jashore, Aug 13 – A 50-year-old man was hacked to death by unidentified assailants just after midnight on Tuesday in Daulatdihi Tarafdarpara village under Sadar upazila of Jashore.
The victim Rezaul Islam was the son of Golam Tarafdar of the same village. He was involved with the Jubo League, the youth wing of the Awami League.
According to locals, the attackers took Rezaul out of his home late at night before killing him. However, the exact motive behind the murder remains unclear.
On information, teams from Kotwali Police Station and the Detective Branch (DB) Police rushed to the scene, said Inspector (Investigation) Kazi Babul of Kotwali Police Station.
The body has been sent to the Jashore General Hospital morgue for autopsy, he added.
Law enforcement officials said that Rezaul had several criminal cases filed against him in the past. While his exact political position within the Jubo League could not be confirmed, sources described him as a locally influential figure and alleged that he was known for his intimidating presence in the area during the Awami League regime.
Police are currently investigating all possible angles, including personal enmity and political rivalry, behind the killing.
The violent incident has triggered panic in the locality, with residents shaken by the gruesome killing. - UNB
