Police have recovered the hanging body of a female student of Rajshahi University (RU) from a student hostel in Binodpur area of Rajshahi city.

The recovery was made on Wednesday afternoon, police said.

The deceased was identified as Lamisa Nawrin Pushpita, a first-year student of the Department of Islamic History and Culture. She hailed from Jhenaidah district.

Officer-in-charge of Motihar Police Station Abdul Kalam Azad said the student was found hanging from a ceiling fan with a scarf tied around her neck.

On information, police broke open the door of the room and rushed her to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where physicians declared her dead.

Her body was sent to the hospital morgue for autopsy, the OC added.

RU Proctor Prof Mahbubur Rahman said the victim’s father has been informed and the body will be handed over after completion of legal procedures, reports UNB.
