Businessman dies after being beaten up in Kalapara

Patuakhali: A businessman named Md. Idris Khan (45) died after being beaten up in Kalapara, Patuakhali, 6 days after he was taken to Victoria Hospital in Narayanganj on the night of March 2 (Monday), and the doctor on duty declared him dead. His home is in Daulatpur village of Nilganj Union in Kalapara Upazila. He is the son of Yusuf Khan of that village.

According to police and local sources, Idris Khan posted various misdeeds including cow theft against Md. Zahirul Islam Zahir, a member of Ward No. 9 of Nilganj Union Parishad and General Secretary of Union Jubo Dal, from his Facebook ID. Enraged by this, Zahir caught him from the local Pakhimara market on the night of February 26 and, along with 7/8 of his associates, beat him up indiscriminately and seriously injured him at the Amirabad Jubo Dal office. Upon receiving the news, Idris Khan's relatives rescued him and sent him to his workplace in Narayanganj after receiving local treatment. While receiving treatment there, he became seriously ill. On Monday night, March 2, he fell ill again and was taken to the hospital where he died.

His body was brought to Kalapara police station around 10 am on March 3 (Tuesday). At that time, many people including his relatives and friends gathered at the police station premises to see his body.

Kalapara police station officer-in-charge Md. Rabiul Islam said that preparations for the case are underway, he mentioned that the culprits will be found later and brought to justice. - Gofran Palash
