The depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining southeast Bay moved southeastwards within the same area and may intensify into a deep depression on Sunday.

At 6am, it was located about 785 kilometres south of Chattogram, 700 kilometres south of Cox’s Bazar, 820 kilometres south of Mongla and 760 kilometres south of Payra.

The system is gradually moving west-northwestwards and is likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm before crossing the coast of Andhra Pradesh by October 28.

Maximum sustained wind speed within 44 kilometres of the depression’s centre is around 40 kilometres per hour, rising to 50 kph in gusts or squalls.

The sea is expected to remain moderate near the depression’s centre.

Maritime ports in Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted distant cautionary signal No. 1.

All fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been advised to move closer to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
