Lowest 9.2 degree temp recorded in Dinajpur
The lowest temperature of the country today recorded 9.2 degrees Celsius at Dinajpur, exposing the poor, elderly people and children to miseries in the district as elsewhere in the northern region.
Local residents said the sun remained covered under thick fog and clouds till noon. Elderly people, women and babies are the worst sufferers, especially in rural and char areas, due to bone-chilling cold.
Met Office sources said minimum temperature marked fall by two to three degrees Celsius while maximum temperatures marked rise by four to eight degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours ending at 6 pm today affecting normal life.
Minimum temperatures recorded today were 11.4 degrees Celsius against yesterday’s 14.4 degrees at Rangpur, 9.2 degrees against yesterday’s 11.2 degrees at Dinajpur, 10.6 degrees against yesterday’s 14 degrees at Saidpur, 9.7 degrees against yesterday’s 10 degrees at Tentulia, 11.4 degrees against yesterdays’ 14.5 degrees at Rajarhat and 12 degrees against yesterday’s 13.5 degrees Celsius at Dimla points.
The maximum temperatures recorded 21 degrees Celsius against yesterday’s 16.5 degrees at Rangpur, 23.5 degrees against yesterday’s 15.6 degrees at Dinajpur, 22.6 degrees against yesterday’s 18.4 degrees at Saidpur, 16.5 degrees against yesterday’s 16 degrees at Tentulia, 20.2 degrees against yesterday’s 16.5 degrees Celsius at Rajarhat and 20.7 degrees against yesterday’s 16.2 degrees Celsius at Dimla.
The lowest temperatures may continue to mark a little fall and maximum temperatures may remain mostly unchanged in the coming days till this month-end in the region, head of the Rangpur Met office Md Mostafizar Rahman told BSS.
However, the sun may appear in the sky at most places amid partially foggy and cloudy weather in the coming days with a possibility of improvement of the weather from the beginning of the next month.
Additional Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension for Rangpur Obaidur Rahman Mondal said special assistance is being given to farmers for taking proper care of Boro rice seedlings to save those from cold.
However, transplantation of Boro rice seedlings continues despite the sweeping cold wave in the region, he added.
