Dense fog makes a ferry in Manikganj nearly invisible on Wednesday morning 5 Jan 2025

Manikganj, Feb 5 -Ferry services on Aricha-Kazirhat and Paturia-Daulatdia routes in Manikganj have been suspended since early Wednesday due to dense fog, leaving more than 400 vehicles stuck at four terminals.

Nasir Chowdhury, Deputy General Manager of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) in Aricha region, said the severity of the fog intensified around 2 am covering the entire river route and making navigation lights invisible.

To avoid any accidents, the ferry operations on the Aricha-Kazirhat route were suspended at 2am, he said.

One ‘Shah Ali’ ferry remained stuck mid-river while heading to Kazirhat terminal, and four other ferries were halted at the both terminals (Aricha-Kazirhat), he said.

Moreover, the ferry services on the Paturia-Daulatdia route remained suspended from 2:30am on the same ground, halting 12 ferries at both terminals.

Officials said that operations would resume when the fog clears. - UNB
