Snowfall in Toronto, Canada
Shaikat Rushdee
After two days and one night of snowfall, there was a brief break this afternoon.
About 25 centimeters of snow fell in the Toronto metropolitan area in the last 24 hours. This snowfall is continuing across the provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
The temperature has dropped below freezing, that is, minus 8 to 10 degrees Celsius. And the wind chill has dropped to minus 18 to 20 degrees.
The roads, highways, cars, fields, buildings and forests covered in white snow are very beautiful to see.
Especially, this whiteness is wonderful to enjoy while sitting in the warmth of a heated room and sipping a mug of hot coffee or tea.
Many people have taken to the open air to enjoy the snow slopes or ice skating on traditional wooden or plastic toboggans.
But even though Sunday is a holiday, daily public life has been disrupted.
Cars are stuck in the snow on roads and highways. There have been many car accidents as visibility has dropped to almost zero. Train services on two of Toronto's four metro rail lines have been disrupted. Numerous flights have been canceled.
After walking in front of the house, it was not possible to leave the house until the snow was cleared from the walkway and driveway where cars are pulled out of the garage.
Many people had to rush to find their cars among the snow-covered cars parked on the road.
Specialized trucks and vehicles of the city corporation clear the snow on the roads and highways. But it is the responsibility of the homeowner to clear the snow in front of their house.
If someone slips and gets injured while walking on the sidewalk in front of someone's house, the homeowner will have to pay for the snow. Therefore, clearing the snow in front of the house yourself or by paying someone for it is the highest priority.
Those who live in apartments in multi-story buildings, instead of clearing the snow personally, take effective measures by contracting with a professional company and taking money for it.
Six photos taken from my apartment on the sixteenth floor of a multi-story building during a break in snowfall today. And the snow removal photos were collected from the Internet.
