The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a warning for strong winds and possible thunderstorms in Dhaka and 11 other districts by midday today (Saturday, May 24), with wind speeds reaching up to 60 kilometers per hour.

In a special weather bulletin released early Saturday, authorities cautioned that gusty or squally winds from the west and northwest, ranging between 45 and 60 km/h, may temporarily sweep through the regions of Dhaka, Mymensingh, Faridpur, Khulna, Barishal, Patuakhali, Cumilla, Noakhali, Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Sylhet. These conditions may be accompanied by rain or thunderstorms.

River ports in these areas have been advised to hoist cautionary signal number 1 as a precautionary measure.

In its regular forecast, the Meteorological Department also noted that by Saturday evening, parts of the Dhaka, Barishal, and Chattogram divisions could experience isolated thunderstorms with lightning and temporary gusts. Similar weather may also occur in a few areas of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, and Sylhet divisions.

Residents are advised to remain alert and take necessary precautions, especially in outdoor and riverine activities.
