Landslide alert for CHT amid heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast

Dhaka, June 18 – Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast that landslides may occur in the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), including Rangamati and Cox’s Bazar district over the next 72 hours, beginning Wednesday morning, due to heavy to very heavy rainfall.

“Due to very heavy rainfall landslide may occur at places over the hilly districts of Chattogram, Rangamati, Bandarban, Khagrachrari and Cox’s Bazar,” said Met office bulletin.

Due to active Southwest Monsoon, heavy (44-88mm/24 hrs) to very heavy (88mm/24 hrs) rainfall is likely to occur at places over Chattogram, Barishal, Khulna, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka and Rajshahi divisions during next 72 hours commencing 10 am on Wednesday.

Besides, temporary waterlogging may occur at places over Dhaka, Chattogram and Khulna metropolitan areas. - UNB
